Ancient Huge Bell in Padmalaya Temple near Erandol in Jalgaon district

Padmalaya village situated 10 Kilometers from Erandol in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra. 'Padmalaya' in Sanskrit  "padmasya Alaya" means "Home of Lotus". There is an ancient temple which of Lord Ganesha is totally built using stones.

This temple was renovated by Shri Sadguru Govind Maharaj in 1912 which was built 1200 years ago.  This temple has very beautifully carved interior & exterior. Around the temple there is a very beautiful lake with several Lotuses next to temple. Hence the place got the name of "Padmalaya". The important feature of this holy place is that there are two idols of Lord Ganesha placed on single dais called as ‘Vyaspeeth”. This is a unique place of its own type in the world. The two self existent (Swayambhu) Ganesh idols called Aamod and Pramod are in the sanctum. These two idols are known as “ Prawal ganesh”. One idol has its trunk curving to the right and the other to the left. Padmalaya Kshetra is regarded as the half Ganapati Peeth among the two and a half Shree Ganapati Peeths in India. There is a hall immediately next to the sanctum. A huge 5 ft tall mouse carved in stone is placed in this hall. This temple is located at the top of a hill. The main temple has small Ganapati temples on all sides. The padukas of Shree Govind Maharaj are located in front of the main entrance of the temple.

There is a huge bell weighing about 440 kgs. made from 5 metals. It is believed that the bell sound was loud enough that it could be heard in Erandol which almost 10 Kilometers away.

We can also find a huge stone grinder having radius of 3.5 ft. It’s very heavy and even 10 well built person cannot even move it.

In my collection i have a special cover  "Ancient Bell of Padmala temple". This special cover issued by Maharashtra Postal Department on the occasion of Mahapex 83 (Maharashtra Philatelic Exhibition) on 12th November,1983.
